Caregiving without the chaos
Last updated: July 28, 2026
CompassCare is built and operated by CompassCareApp LLC ("we," "our"). This policy explains what CompassCare handles — and, just as importantly, what it doesn't. It applies to the CompassCare app on both the Apple App Store and Google Play, and to compasscareapp.com.
Your caregiving information stays on your device. Medications, allergies, care team, documents, comfort preferences, who to notify, who not to tell, kid logistics — none of it is sent to us, and we have no server holding it. The one exception is purchases: when you subscribe or buy Lifetime, a record of that purchase is handled by our payments provider so your access can be restored on a new device.
Everything you enter into CompassCare is stored locally, using the operating system's standard app storage (AsyncStorage, which is backed by NSUserDefaults on iOS and SharedPreferences on Android). It stays there until you delete it or uninstall the app. That includes:
None of this is transmitted to us. We cannot see it, and we could not produce it if someone asked us to.
CompassCare asks for camera access so you can scan a document, and photo library access so you can add one you already have. These permissions are used only when you actively choose to add a document. Images are written to the app's private storage on your device. They are not uploaded, backed up to us, or analysed.
You can decline either permission and still use the rest of the app — you can type document details in by hand instead.
Subscriptions and the Lifetime purchase are processed by the Apple App Store or Google Play. We never see or handle your card details.
To keep track of what you've bought — so premium unlocks correctly and so "Restore Purchases" works when you change phones — we use RevenueCat, Inc. as our purchase-management provider. When you make or restore a purchase, RevenueCat receives:
| Data | Why |
|---|---|
| Purchase history — which plan, when, whether it's active | To unlock premium and restore it on a new device |
| A randomly generated anonymous ID | To tie a purchase to an install. It is not your name, email or phone number. |
| Basic device and app information, including IP address | Sent automatically with the request; used for fraud prevention and receipt validation |
This is transmitted over an encrypted connection. RevenueCat acts as our service provider and processes this only on our behalf. We do not sell it, and we do not use it for advertising. RevenueCat's own policy is at revenuecat.com/privacy.
We do not receive your name, email address or payment details from either store.
On iPhone, CompassCare asks Apple's public lookup service whether a newer version exists. That request contains the app's identifier and nothing about you.
When you share a Crisis PDF or a care summary, your device's own share sheet opens and you pick where it goes — email, messages, print, AirDrop. That transfer is between you and whoever you send it to. It does not pass through us.
Tapping a phone number in Care Mode opens your phone app. The call is handled by your carrier, not by us.
Care Mode is designed so you can hand your unlocked phone to someone helping you. Whoever holds the phone can see what you've put in the app. That is the feature working as intended — it happens on your device, not through any server. Only hand your phone to people you trust.
You may record health information in CompassCare — medications, allergies, conditions, insurance and medical documents. Because all of it stays on your device and we never receive it, CompassCare is not a HIPAA-covered service and we are not a business associate of any healthcare provider. Treat the app the way you'd treat a paper folder of medical notes: keep your phone locked and secure.
CompassCare is not a medical device and does not provide medical advice, diagnosis or treatment.
CompassCare is for adults coordinating care for themselves or family members. It is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect information from children. If you record details about your own children in the Kids & Logistics section, that stays on your device like everything else.
If we change how CompassCare handles information — for example if we switch on cloud sync or family sharing — we will update this policy, change the date at the top, and tell you inside the app before the change takes effect.
